Brief - VSLR stakeholders felt that the home page needed a much desired update. New components were required to comply with the their requests. They wanted new dynamic and interactive sections that not only had more visual interest but increased user interaction as well.
Problem - The current CMS components were very limiting to new builds and we were left with only a few options when it came adding a variety of layouts. The backend interface was also very rigid and restrictive, making it a very slow process to build out new pages or even update current ones. We also needed to design new sections that would link to the massive proposed build out of our Learn, Help, Blog, Product and Coverage Area pages.
Goal - I needed to design and develop new components that could relay the current information on the site but also build out new updated sections on the pages as well. These page components needed to be designed in a template base layout but also must allow for very fluid use cases. I hypothesized that designs with full screen width imagery and responsive components would increase the user completion rate and lower bounce rates. We also gathered requirements from departments within Vivint Solar who were stakeholders. They were able to give us critical incites of pain points they noticed from there users.
Outcome - I designed 2 dozen fluid components that could be added to or subtracted from in order to create completely customized pages. Many of these components would allow us to input custom tags within in the markdown fields along with custom margin control within the JSON editor. We launched the updated designs on the home page and have been user testing each component individually with Google Optimize 360 to maximize our CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization). We’ve found a handful of trends that promote more qualified lead generation through creative form designing. We’ve also been able to personalize user experiences through targeted IP address geo locations.
